BRINGING TO THE STAGE A PLAY THAT CHANGED HIS LIFE
Dr. Kornel, 55, is both the theatrical producer (his company is named Synaptic Productions) and one of the lead actors in “A Perfect Ganesh,” which tells the story of a pair of Greenwich women who go on a life-changing journey to India. While ostensibly seeking adventure, the two are really searching for solace from the tragedies in their lives. One of them is a collector who is hunting for a statuette representing the Hindu god Ganesha.
“To me, the play speaks about finding the divinity that exists in each of us,” said Dr. Kornel, who discovered the script when he started taking acting classes in Manhattan 15 years ago.
“It profoundly moved me in a way that only truly great literature can do,” he said. “It changed my life and changed the way I perceived the world and my relationships with people.”

BRINGING TO THE STAGE A PLAY THAT CHANGED HIS LIFE
....Kornel would find the stage again as an adult after attending a weekend personal growth seminar in the early ’90s. “We were asked to write down what we really wanted to do,” he said. “And it hit me: I really wanted to act.” He heeded his inner voice and began taking classes, eventually landing roles Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway and in Rye (Off-Broadway with sailboats).
He has a starring role in Terrence McNally’s “A Perfect Ganesh” Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 1,2, 6-8, 13-15 at the Chappaqua Crossing Auditorium on the Readers Digest campus.
By day, Kornel is a neurosurgeon: backs, brains and the like.
You often hear of surgeons who like to work with their hands. Thoughts naturally turn to knitting a busted femur, but the personality foible translates to neurosurgery, too. “I have always enjoyed fine manual work,” he said. Unlike many people who like to work with their hands and who move on to cabinetry or transmissions, Kornel majored in neurophysiology at Cornell University. His musical bent also embraces the dexterous: the violin.

SYNAPTIC PRODUCTION’S, “A PERFECT GANESH”
AT CHAPPAQUA CROSSING IS PERFECT
Terrance McNally's delicate kaleidoscope, A PERFECT GANESH, demands the stated flawlessness in its title to work. On a bare vast stage, Ezriel, Susan, David and Sarah-Ann have nowhere to hide. It is purely immense talent that allows the audience to stowaway with their characters on an unexpected trip to enlightenment.
Producer, director, choreographer, make-up artist, costumer, set designer, light designer and stage hands all work collaboratively with these gifted performers, like Ganeshas, striking just the right alpat?, (Hindi for note) thus bringing Mr. McNally's imaginative voyage to complete fruition.
Last night, Jim and I were transported to India on a magical carpet ride. We took only our Passports, stamped "Destination One's Soul" at the curtain call. To say the evening was both surprisingly provocative and completely entertaining is an understatement.
It was transformational.
Perfect. A PERFECT GANESH.
BRAVO and CONGRATULATIONS!!
